The series further progresses to depict how the Emergency became a launchpad for
Sanjay Gandhi, Indira’s son.
It shows how in the post-Emergency period Sanjay ran India with some of his friends single-handedly wielding absolute power. India’s history progressed with JP choosing Morarji Desai for PM’s post.
The Congress then came back to power in January 1980. With an interesting turn of events shown ahead, Sanjay loses most of his loyalties and subsequently dies in an air crash on 23 June 1980 in
New Delhi. The next phase of the series highlights Operation Bluestar, one of the critical shapers of modern Indian political history showing the confrontation between Indira’s Army and the Sikh rebels of Akali Dal resulting in artillery attacks inside the Golden Temple, Amritsar. The last part of the series evaluates critically Rajiv Gandhi’s era and how his political intent marked the beginning of India’s economic history.
The liberalization era ushered in with Rajiv Gandhi’s disinvestment policy. It displays critically how his era is shaken by two assassinations in his own family and his political support enhanced as a result. The show presents in a short, crisp and a factual manner the events that helped or obstructed India to be what it is today.
