Kathak Dance originally originated in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. It is one of the major dance forms of India. It resulted from the cultural mixture of Hindu and Muslim religions. The dance form simply depicts the childhood stories of Krishna through dance. The main focus of the dance form is on the eyes and on the foot movements. She has performed in different parts of the world such as Germany, South Korea and Vietnam.

She has been a devotee of the Kathak dance for the last 25 years. This dancer runs a school in West Bengal by the name of Makhla Shinjini (Shinjini means the sound of Ghunguroo). She has been presenting many solo performances and as a group, along with her troupe. Keya has documented a collection of songs labeled ‘ICHHE HAY’, available in the market. The concept of the album is about inner feelings. This pioneer dancer is a mother of a world-famous kathak dancer, Tanmoyee Chanda.

Kathak is one of the main forms of ancient Indian classical dance which is traditionally regarded to have originated from the traveling bards of North India referred to as Kathakars or storytellers. These Kathakars roamed around and communicated with legendary stories via music, dance and songs. The dance form developed during the Bhakti movement, the trend of theistic devotion which evolved in medieval Hinduism. The Kathakars communicate stories through rhythmic foot movements, hand gestures, facial expressions and eye work.

This performing art that integrates tales from ancient folklore and great Indian epics, especially from the life of Lord Krishna, became quite popular in the courts of North Indian kingdoms. Three specific forms of this genre that is there are three gharanas, which mostly give priority to the footwork versus acting are more famous and named, the Jaipur Gharana, the Benaras Gharana and the Lucknow Gharana.
