Malayalam Tv Show Asianet Plus Ponnonam Specials

Ponnonam Specials is a special reality TV show that airs on the channel Asianet Plus. The show aired in the year 2016 during the time of the Onam festival in Kerala. The runtime of each episode was 30 minutes, but some episodes were extended up to 40 minutes as well. Ponnonam Specials is a set of reality shows that revolves around the festival of Onam. The show is a special compilation of interviews, stories, comedy skits, celebrity chat sessions and other cultural events and food that are related to the festival of Onam. The show was telecasted from 11TH September 2016 to 17th September 2016, during the second week of Onam. This was the first season of the show. The season had 24 episodes in total. Every day there were 3 to 4 different episodes of the show that were being telecasted. As the show was a compilation, each episode had different themes and different hosts like Preetha Pratheep, Srimukhi, and Meera.

The first episode of the show gave an insight to the Kowdiar Palace in Kerala, the private residence for the royal family of Kerala. The place is huge with 150 rooms and is known for its architectural beauty. The next episode was a compilation of old Malayalam movies which were a hit back in 90’s. This episode sure awoke a lot of nostalgia in the audience and resurfaced a lot of memories. The next episode was a documentary on Malathy G Menon, the queen of Thiruvathirakali, a popular group dance of Kerala which is performed by a group of women, on festivals like Onam.

The episode showcased her lifestruggles as a dancer and her fight for recognition. One of the episodes featured Actor Chiyaan Vikram, who celebrated Onam with the team of the show and also promoted his then releasing movie Iru Mugan.

Another episode featured all the major food specialties that are cooked in various households during the festival. This particular episode featuredPazhayidam Mohanan Namboothiri, who talked about how he makes the finest vegetarian Sadya during Onam. The other episodes featured different acts that were put together by Malayalam comedians and actors, traditional Onam folk songs and how Onam is celebrated in Dubai was shown. There was also awareness raising episodes where it was shown how to fight crimes and do some good work during this auspicious festival.

There were also a few episodes showcasing some heart touching stories like a mother waiting for her daughter to come back to celebrate Onam with her or a child who teaches his father the importance of relationships over money. The show was a wholesome package of talent, awareness, fun and some inspiring and thought-provoking stories.
