However, what fascinate the Indian audiences are the revenge sagas of the snakes, in context with the elusive Nagamani, and ‘Naga Rani’ just caters to that taste. ‘Nagakanni’, or ‘Naga Rani,’ currently airs on the Tamil version of Zee TV, Zee Tamizh or Zee Tamil. Having made its debut on Monday, 25th of April 2016, the show currently airs in prime time slots, from Monday to Friday. Currently running on Zee Tamizh with over 43 episodes and counting, this show is an apparent adaptation of the Hindi edition, ‘Naginn’, which aired on Zee TV in the latter half of 21st century’s first decade.

This show belongs to the mystery genre and begins in Thankshavadana, an apparently dangerous forest, which houses in a mysterious cave the elusive jewel, Nagamani, ensconced over a Shiva Linga. Rudhra, a man who is well known for his avarice, happens to pass by the mysterious cave when he notices the elusive jewel. Overcome by greed, he decides to possess it, when he meets an obstacle: The Nagas, who protect the Nagamani as of then. Known for their shape shifting, the Nagaraja and Nagarani have been deputed as the protectors of the Nagamani, and will do anything to protect it from falling into evil hands.

However, they fall prey to the evil designs of Rudhra, who wants the Nagamani at all costs and both die at his hands, one by one. Amrutha, their daughter, is a meek witness to it. She is even burnt once by the evil Rudhra. However, due to her identity, she resurrects herself, and vows to take revenge from Rudhra and his family, and rightfully claim back the Nagamani. However, the road to redemption is not that easy for Amrutha, and what happens next is the crux of this serial.
