Arul Neram is a program based on the Hindu religion and its places of worship. Aired every morning at 6 AM on on Jaya TV, another major television channel in the big league in the state of Tamil Nadu. Featured for around half an hour, it has the daily notings of the day as per the Tamil Almanac , and is highlighted with the mention of the auspicious features of the day. It is an exclusive offer on a given Temple in a specific place. The places of interest featured are from all parts of the country, with no specific concentration in any particular type of God or Goddesses.
The entire history and all matters of importance of the said place of worship is also presented in its totality. The viewers get a chance to see temples unseen and even unheard of before. The method and the nuances of worship to appease the deity and seek blessings in a given place is laid out well. The unique style of narration and commentary by the host is something which lingers long in the minds of the audience. The show has breached the 5K episodes mark with Mr. M. M.V.Venkatakrishnan is a scholar in Sanskrit and Vaishnavism – a stream of study on the practice, rights and rituals on the followers of Lord Vishnu and his incarnations. He is also a Professor and the Head of Department, in the Department of Vaishnavism, of the University of Madras.
Venkatakrishnan is an ardent preacher, and it is known as ‘upanyaasam’ in Tamil. He has authored more than a dozen books on the subject of practices in Vaishnavism and some lesser known achievements of the incarnations of the Almighty Lord Vishnu and other Gods and Goddesses. He is also the editor and publisher of a Tamil Religious Monthly – Geethacharyan, since 1978. He is credited with the achievement of having printed many unpublished Palm-leaf manuscripts for the first time.
