The most beautiful part about the show is that its story mixes real things with some imaginary ones. It includes historical figures like Theodore Roosevelt, who was the police commissioner from 1895 to 1897. After the first season, TNT decided to make another part based on a book from 1997 called "The Angel of Darkness." The second season, "The Alienist: Angel of Darkness," began on July 19, 2020, and ran till August 9, 2020.

In the first season, set in 1896, the team  focuses on terrible murders happening to boy prostitutes in New York City. Captain Connor and the retired Chief Byrnes, become more interested in protecting New York's high society's reputation than solving crimes, oppose them. Also, the working poor and lower-class citizens distrust the team, thinking they are outsiders. The series shows the challenges they face in catching the criminals while dealing with these different obstacles. Are they able to catch the guilty party? Will their issues sort and they start working as a team? The rest of the story deals with that.
