He has credi >> Read More... ), who is a troubled novelist who suffers from writer's block—a condition where the writer or the creator comes to a halt in the process of creating new stuff out of the experiences and observations. Faced by many writers but their temperaments have been brought them back on the track, but sometimes some also suffer for a long time.

As Hank moves to California, he starts to suffer from this condition, which then leads to habits like drinking, gambling, womanizing, and drug abuse. These habits led to erosion among his relationship with his daughter Becca (played by Madeleine Martin) and his long-time lover Karen (played by Natascha McElhone). Hank goes through a journey where he misses a lot of opportunities and facing blame for ruining everything but somehow figures out good for everyone by making right decisions.

The show won 2 Emmy Awards and 1 Golden Globe Award. The third season of the show starts with hank in the position where his daughter is side-tracked from being a responsible teenager. On the other hand, Hank gets offered a teaching job at a school which he accepts. As he starts his new job, he gets ragged by the students and faces a trouble to continue. But he tries to keep a strong face and consoles his jilted assistant. With Becca also, he addresses the problem with her wearing objectionable clothes. Then Karen decides to visit Los Angeles to reunite her family and make Hank happy. But she stops by at Hank’s University and scrutinizes his students who were mostly girls. Hank is fearing that he has messed up thing with Karen tries to cool down the tension between him and the school hotties but fails badly. Then the next day Hank gets surprised by Jackie and her two stripper friends from the club followed by an unexpected visit from his two students. To complicate things, Rick Springfield also arrives at the same time. In the last episode, Hank takes his manager Charlie (played by Evan handler) out for drinks but end up in between a convenience store armed robbery.
