Perman, a Japanese manga series airing on Hungama TV is based on the rollercoaster life of Mitsuo Suwa, a clumsy young boy who becomes the apprentice of a powerful superhero, Superman/Birdman. Superman/Birdman, an alien from Planet Bird, is a part of a federation that attempts to ensure peace in the galaxy. However, since he is retiring, he rewards Mitsuo with is three things i.e a helmet-cum- mask which gives Mitsuo superhuman strength, a cape to help in flying and a badge that enables him to breathe underwater and communicate with his fellow companions whom he met soon after he used these gifts.
Mitsuo and all his fellow Permans are also given special doppelganger robots that can replace them while they are away on a mission to keep their superhero identity a secret because revelation could lead to the destruction of their brains. Thus, begins Perman and his friends’ journey of saving the world and its people from crimes and disasters. This animated action-comedy series comprising of about 228 episodes of 22 minutes each, beautifully captures Mitsuo's struggles of trying to balance his life as a superhero and an ordinary schoolboy.
