Set up in a remote Indian village, the series revolves around a fictional CIPD force and their battle with an army of undead zombies. These zombies are a battalion under the East India Company Army officer Lt. Col. John Lynedoch from the Indian Rebellion, 1857.

Commandant Vikram Sirohi and his teammates, Ahluwalia, Akbar, and Haq (cousin of Akbar and a recruit), belong to Baaz Squad, an elite unit of the Counter Insurgency Police Department (CIPD). They work under Commandant Tyagi, who conspires with the owner of Surya Construction Company, Ajay Mudhalvan, to relocate or murder the Naxalites and Adivasi people from their lands. She wants to use their lands for the various construction projects of Surya Corp. Vikram follows the commandant due to past guilt.

At the very beginning, a large group of Adivasi people conducts a ritual to a spirit called Betaal at a shrine. An old lady touches the statue of Betaal. She envisions the disaster that might happen if Betaal comes out. The Adivasi strongly believes that the Betaal is present in an ancient tunnel. The old lady warns the people of her community not to open the tunnel ever. Elsewhere, Mudhalvan, his wife Shakuntala, and their daughter Saanvi prepare to convert the community and the surrounding areas into a construction site. They want to complete the project on time before the arrival of the CM for its inauguration.

Hence, Mudhalvan orders Tyagi and Baaz's squad to clear the area near the Betaal Mountain. The squad forcibly removes the villagers and burns their houses for a highway-building project. After that, the villagers gather at the tunnel entrance to protect it with their age-old weapons and farm tools. Vikram unsuccessfully asks the villagers to clear the entrance. The squad hesitates to open fire. But, a subordinate of Mudhalvan, Bhunnu, activates a secret bomb near the tunnel entrance. This tactic tricks Tyagi and Vikram into thinking it is an attack from the villagers. Hence, the Baaz squad kills all the villagers except a woman named Punia and her husband, Sarpanch.

Now, the tunnel entrance is open. Some of the construction workers go in to start the work. However, soon followed by some horrified screams, one of the workers stumbles out injured and dies. Thinking of it as a Naxalite attack, the Baaz squad tries to secure the tunnel but suffers heavy losses and injury. Tyagi and Haq were also among the injured. A group of undead British soldiers attacks everyone, and they find shelter in some old barracks. While trying to enter the barracks, Shakuntala gets killed, Haq begins to succumb to his injuries, and Tyagi, whose hair is turning white, starts acting strangely. The squad team also lost contact with the outside world due to the malfunctioning of their comms.

Soon, the deceased started to reanimate. Vikram learns from Puniya and some old barrack records about the British East India Company's Lt. Colonel John Lynedoch. He is the one commanding the undead. Lynedoch was a respected veteran soldier and a black magic practitioner. He was a tyrant and wanted to become the emperor of British India. He hoped to find the shrine of Betaal and absorb its powers sealed in the roots of the mountain. However, Indian resistance fighters trapped the entire regiment along with Lynedoch inside the tunnel. Therefore, Lynedoch sacrificed his son, who was in the same regiment, to become Betaal. Later, he devoured his regiment and waited for hundreds of years with his army of undead. Now, he wants to sacrifice Saanvi to augment his powers and satisfy his hunger.

As the struggle for survival ensues, Tyagi turns out to be under the possession of the Colonel while Haq becomes a living zombie. Colonel now controls all the dead people of the village. Eventually, the Baaz squad decides to protect Saanvi, and Mudhalvan decides against it to keep his malicious actions secret from everyone. The survivors manage to flee to the worship hall and try to find the explosives to destroy the shrine for good. Colonel uses the body of Tyagi to try to abduct Saanvi, but Vikram stops her. However, the Colonel kills Bhunnu and possesses Vikram. Now, he uses the body of Vikram to drag the girl towards the sacrificial altar in the mountain tunnel.

Vikram manages to resist the possession for some time and frees Saanvi. As the zombies and Colonel begin to devour Vikram, Saanvi detonates the explosives, destroying the shrine. She escapes the tunnel and reunites with Akbar and Punia at the entrance. However, while driving to safety, they listen to the widespread reports of attacks from some unknown hostiles. Saanvi reads from a book that the shrine should only be sealed, not destroyed, as it acts as a container of the powers of Betaal. If it breaks, then the undead power of Betaal will spread uncontrollably, resulting in drastic consequences.

Akbar watches a news showcasing an ongoing attack on Mumbai from multiple hostiles. The screen focuses on the 18th-century fleet of wooden warships appearing from the fog over the water. They are sporting the British flag before everything turns black. The ending of this series leaves room for the next season. Vineet Kumar Singh played the role of Vikram Sirohi, Suchitra Pillai became Commander Tyagi, and Richard Dillane became Colonel Lynedoch in this web series.
