Chakkikotha Chankaran is a humorous take on the happenings that occur in the quirky family of Appu, a government employee. Appu lives with his doting mother and grumpy sister. His sister is married to a gulf ex-pat and is eagerly waiting for a Visa to join her husband abroad. Meanwhile, Appu’s mother is actively scouting for a suitable bride to match her son. But much to their surprise, Appu indicates towards having other plans as he is involved romantically with the daughter of a local magnate, whom he marries and brings home. .
 With the entrance of the newest member to the family, the setup is now complete for a laughter riot. For most part, the show depends on the familiar trope of sister-in-law rivalries that get played out subtly against a condescending mother, and caught between the crosshairs of these catfights is Appu. As his sister devises new and innovative schemes to bring her sister-in-law to heel, the latter fights back, leading to hilarious moments and building up the premise for the next episode.
One of such brilliantly conceived scheme was to feign that the washing machine has broken down, so that the newbie will have to wash her clothes by hand. But the unassuming mother-in-law bluntly breaks the scheme by blurting out that she had just washed on the machine and it seems fine. The revelation leaves the schemer in the cold and in an embarrassing expose’ and gifts the audience another moment of laughter.
