Nirmalendu Chowdhury is a well-known Bengali musician, lyricist, composer, and singer. He has made a significant contribution to folk music, which is particularly prominent among the Bengali and Assamese communities. Nirmalendu Chowdhury was born on 27 July 1922 in Dharmapasha, Sunamganj, in present-day Bangladesh, Assam Province, British India. He was brought up in the Bahely village. His father's name was Nalini Nath Chowdhury, and his mother's name was Smt. Snehalata Chowdhury. From Bahely Primary School, he started early education.

After that, his family was shifted to Lamabazar of Sylhet. Here Nirmalendu and his brother were admitted to Rasamay Memorial School. He got into the MC college for graduation after completing the matriculation examination. His parents are the inspiration for his music profession. Sri Ashokbijay Raha is the guru of his Rabindra Sangeet learning. Before 1953, he migrated to India, and 1953, his Fame started to grow. The same year, he and his brother got an invitation from Anil Kumar Chanda, the then Deputy Minister for External Affairs, to join a preparatory program for Jawaharlal Nehru's visit to the Soviet Union. In this cultural delegation, Dancer Sitara Devi, vocalist Lalita S Ubhayakar, Rabindra Sangeet artist Dwijen Mukherjee, Tabalia, and Shanta Prasad were also present. In 1955, Nirmalendu took part in the Grand Bolshoi Theater in Moscow.  Later, he received a gold medal for singing at an international folk song convention in Warsaw. He was a participant in several International cultural missions. He helps make popular Indian folk songs among foreigners by performing in various places abroad, such as Warsaw, Sofia, Prague, Belgrade, and Moscow.

He went to many countries, such as the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, Poland, etc. In 1955, he delivered a notable performance in the Banga Sanskriti Sammelan, Kolkata. There are a hundred songs on his record. His song collection was published as Epar Bangla Opar Banglar Gan. He is also a playback singer and actor. He is the Padma Bhushan award winner singer. This fantastic singer died on 18 April 1981 in Kolkata.
