Chinmoy Chattopadhyay also known as Chinmoy Chatterjee, was a famous Bengali singer. He was born on 7 October 1930 in Panihati, Bengal. His father’s name was Narendranath Chattopadhyay. Chinmoy completed his early education at Tirthapati Institution in Calcutta. He graduated with a BA from Ashutosh College, West Bengal. Vishmadev Chattopadhyay, a prominent vocal artist of Indian classical music, was impressed by his singing and taught him music along with his studies. Chinmoy sang his first ever song at nineteen on Akashvani which was likely to be Tumi Dak Diyechho. After an audition, he became a regular artist in Akashvani. Chinmoy took Classical music (vocal) training from Bishmadev for twelve consecutive years. His first records are Tumi Sandhyar Meghmala and Aji Bijan Ghare released in 1954, during his college life by HMV. In the 1950s, Chinmoy started singing Rabindra sangeet Songs.

He is predominantly known for singing Rabindrasangeet songs and became extremely popular due to his mesmerizing melodious voice. Chinmoy Chattopadhyay was a regular voice on All India Radio programs on Rabindra sangeet and is known for recording more than 150 Rabindra sangeet songs. Bhara Thak Smritisudhai (1966), Ebar Amay Dakle Dure (1970), Kholo jo Ankhi (1971), Durer Bandhu (2005), and Tridhara (2011) are some of the best hits of Chinmoy Chattopadhyay that were released during his lifetime and after his death as well. Chinmoy Chattopadhyay died due to liver ailments on 26 July 1987. He died early at the age of 57 only.
