Singer Prasun Mukherjee is well known in Bengal and specializes in Rabindra-sangeet. He has also held the position of general manager for A&R at SUPER CASSETTES INDUSTRIES. He has won the Sakha Award for Best Singer, the Shobhna Award at Kal Manch, the Golden Disc from Atlantic Music (for Selling Maximum Records for Non-Film), the Uttam Kumar Award in 1990, and the Noida Rattan Award for contribution to the Indian Film Industry. ‘Aakash Bhara Surjo Tara’, ‘Din Guli Mor Sonar’, ‘Jagoroney Jai Babhabori’, and ‘Baro Asha Kore Eshechi’ are some of Prasun Mukherjee's best albums.

Despite being a commercial success, the singer faced criticism that much of his style was influenced by the late singer Hemant Kumar. Even the singer admits that, although his singing was highly appreciated, his early work sometimes didn't do justice to his musical abilities. The fact that he sings differently than Hemant Kumar, leaving much to the listener's imagination, sets him apart from other performers.
