English Cinematographer Stuart Dryburgh

Stuart Dryburgh is an Oscar-nominated English born cinematographer born on March 30, 1952, in London. He later moved to New Zealand in 1961 at the age of 9 years, where he spent most of his childhood and young adult life. Stuart completed his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Auckland in 1977. His father was the one who introduced him to photography when he was just eight years old, and thus he decided later that he would pursue his career in cinematography.

Initially, employed as a gaffer wherein he worked on many films and commercials. In 1989 he shot a Television miniseries as cinematographer for director Jane Campion. This led the famous duo of cinematographer/director, Dryburgh/Campion which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematographer in 1994. Dryburgh moved the United States in 1996 where he continued his career as a cinematographer.
