Gael Garcia Bernal is a Mexican actor, director, and producer. He was born on November 30, 1978. He is the founder of Canana films in the Mexican city. Bernal was born in Guadalajara, Mexico. He started acting at a very early age and had spent his teenage starring in telenovelas.

With chemistry being his favourite subject, he completed his studies from International Baccalaureate. At the age of 14, he taught indigenous people in Mexico to read. After a year he migrated to London, England and was the first Mexican who got enrolled to study at the Central School of Speech and Drama.

He portrays himself as spiritually Agnostic and culturally Catholic. He made his debut in Amores Perros as a working class dreamer who gave him the nomination in Oscar, and he grabbed the Hollywood's attention. He was also a part of some theater work which includes a 2005 production of Bodas de Sangre in the Almeida theatre in London.

In 2006, he worked in his first English film, 'The King'. Later he was seen in the movies like The Science of Sleep, Babel, and 'The King'. The first feature film directed by Bernal was Deficit which released in the year 2007. His passionate follow-up in music gave him a chance to get featured in 2007 Devendra Banhart album Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon for which he contributed his vocals for the track Cristobal.

In the same year, he was a jury member of 57th Berlin International Film Festival. He also starred in Even the Rain in the same year which was a Spanish entry for the Academy Awards. He acted in another movie Write the Future for Nike advertisements.

To widespread the critical acclaim, he worked on his next project which was a directorial biopic Rosewater. He was declared to be the member of the main competition jury at Cannes Film Festival 2014. He also earned a Golden Globe Award 2016, this year for his performance as Rodrigo in comedy-drama television series, Mozart in the Jungle.

Later, in the 2016 film Neruda, he played an inspector chasing Pablo Neruda, the Nobel laureate poet. Afterwards, Garcia Bernal voiced a character in Coco's animated feature (2017), about a little boy who embarks on a journey through the Land of the Dead to unearth his family's long-kept secrets. He was cast in Ema and Wasp Network the following year. As a conductor in Mozart in the Jungle (2014–18), a comedy set in the realm of classical music, Garcia Bernal continued to appear on television. Garcia Bernal received a Golden Globe for his performance in 2016.
