Born on 11th June, 1959, James Hugh Calum Laurie is officially known as Hugh Laurie. This talented individual is a complete package of an Actor, writer, director, musician, singer and an author. He first gained recognition through Fry and Laurie double act, which included his comrade . He is best known for his title role of Mr. Gregory House in the television sitcom House, for which he received two Golden Globe Awards, two Screen Guild Awards and nomination for six Emmy Awards. In 2011, He was listed amongst the Guinness Record Holder for the world’s most watched man on television and the highest paid actor in television drama earning £250,000 ($409,000) for each episode of House.

Hugh has one brother and two sisters. He always had restrained relationship with his mom. She died out of Motor Neurone Disease when Laurie was 30. His mom always considered him to be the hindrance in her life. While his father, William George Ranald Mundell Laurie was a Gold medallist in coxless pairs in 1948 London games.

He took his piano lessons at the age of six. During the House, many classic instruments including Gibson Flying V and Les Pauls Guitar. He is a non-believer of god and says that "I don't believe in God, but I have this idea that if there were a God, or destiny of some kind looking down on us, that if he saw you taking anything for granted he'd take it away". Laurie was brought up in Oxford and did his schooling from Dragon School and was known to be a horrible student in his age. He was a smoker in his youth and always cheated his school tests.

He is a passionate biker, owning two motorbikes. Laurie mentions the major reason for his educating at Selwyn College at Cambridge University, is the tradition that is initiated by his father. He attained a degree in Archaeology and anthropology. “The Gun Seller”, an elaborate thriller volume was his first in the field of writing. He married Jo Green, who was also a Theatre Administrator. They are presently living in Belsize Park with his children, Charlie and Rebecca.
