Born on August 25, 1973, in Lørenskog, Norway, Roar Uthaug is a director and writer, known for films like Cold Prey (2006), The Wave (2015) and Escape (2012). The now successful director had a knack and an inquisitive passion for directing and film making since his childhood years only. Roar started out in the way of direction in his teens itself when he used to make music videos to the music of his creation.

He even made his first film in just 8th grade! The film is called "The Axe Killer". He directed the movie at Fjellsrud Ungdoms skole (his school). Wanting to pursue his passion and get an official degree for it, he joined The Norwegian film school and graduated from there in 2002. For his graduation, he directed the film “The Martin Administration.” The movie was critically acclaimed widely and became the second student-film in Norwegian history to be selected by AMPAS (the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Science) for the Student Academy Awards. His debut into the Norwegian Film Industry happened with the feature film Fritt Vilt (Cold Prey) released in Norway on October 13, 2006.

The film is a thriller story, as is his forte. Other than that he has directed few more thrillers, the most widely appreciated among them being “Flukt (Escape)” released in 2012 and “The Wave” in 2015. “The Wave” is an impressive tsunami-peril thriller while “The Escape” is a simple but adrenaline-fueled survival tale which revolves around women action. Roar worked at ‘Fantefilm’, a Norwegian production company for few years of his career. Working under their aegis, Uthaug directed numerous commercials for Norwegian TV.

He also directed various music videos for Norwegian Music Stars including Unni Wilhelmsen and Vidar Busk. He has also directed various American commercials including a Doritos commercial. His next, most hyped venture is going to be the direction of the sequel of the Tomb Raider series. MGM and Warner Brothers recently announced that Roar would be directing the sequel of the famous Tomb Raider film franchise whose release date is still unannounced.
