Baz Luhrmann

Mark Anthony Luhrmann, aka Baz Luhrmann, is an Australian movie director, actor, producer, and screenwriter. He was born on 17th of September, 1962, in Sydney, Australia. He is the son of Barbara Carmel and Leonard Luhrmann. His father used to work in a film theater and petrol station. He grew in a rural area in the northern New South Wales, Herons Creek. From 1975 to 1978, he studied at St. Joseph Hasting Regional School at Port Macquarie. He attended St. Paul College at Manly. He performed in Shakespeare's plays like Part 1, and Henry IV. Later, he went to Narrabeen High School and met his future partner, Craig Pearce.

His father gave him the nickname, Baz. Therefore, he changed his official name to Baz from Mark, in 1979. Then, he joined the National Institute of Dramatic Art to pursue acting classes in 1983. In 1985, he completed his graduation with Catherine McClements, Sonia Todd, and Justin Monjo. He got married to Catherine Martin on 26th of January, 1997. She is a production designer. They have two children together. He is a supporter of the Australian Football League for Melbourne Demons.

After being successful in theaters and stage performances, he directed five pictures.
