His parents were Helen and George Harris Kennedy. His mother was a ballet dancer, and his father was a musician and orchestra leader. His father passed away when he was four years old. He studied at Tarleton State University, Stephenville, Texas, U.S. Soon after his graduation, he joined the US Army in 1943. He continued in the army and rose to the rank of a captain. Because of his back injury in the late 1950's, he had to search for another job, and he came out from the army. In his military career, he won two bronze stars and four rows of combat and service ribbon.

George Kennedy appeared on the stage at the age of two in 'Bringing Up Father' and at the age of seven, he was a New York DJ. Apart from the above, he made his entry into the TV sitcom 'The Phil Silvers Show' as the military technical advisor and he opined that he had a great learning experience working with the sitcom.

Throughout his career, George Kennedy did not do the simple roles. He always appeared in the work-oriented and the most appreciated characters. He garnered accolades in his career for his enchanting performance. He appeared in the minor roles in some films like 'Lonely are The Brave', 'The Sons of Katie Elder', etc. In the late 1950's and 1960's, George appeared in the television Westerns 'Rawhide', 'Maverick', etc.

In 1960's and 1970's, he was very busy with his acting. He appeared in some blockbusters like 'Hurry Sundown' (1967), 'The Dirty Dozen' (1967), etc. He is the only actor who had appeared in the subsequent three sequels of 'Airport' (1970). He received Oscar Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in 'Cool Hand Luke' (1967).

George Kennedy did his level best to justify all the roles he played. Though he did some minor roles, they are unforgettable and always inspiring. Leslie Neilsen and George Kennedy are solely responsible for the outstanding comedy in 'The Naked Gun'. He did mot confine himself to the acting career. He also voiced the animated characters in 'Cats Don't Dance' and children's action film, 'Small Soldiers' (1998). He also wrote three books. Two novels include Murder on Location, Murder on High and his autobiography Trust Me.

Coming to his personal life, he married four times and had two children. He adopted four children. He died on February 28, 2016, because of heart disease. Overall, he led a very successful life that would inspire the upcoming generations.
