Rodrigo Junqueira dos Reis Santoro is an artist and actor from Brazil. He was born in Petropolis (The Imperial City of Brazil), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His mother is a Brazilian of Portuguese origin and father an Italian. In 1993, when Santoro was studying Journalism at Pontifical Catholic University-PUC in Rio de Janeiro, he joined Rede Globo’s Actor’s workshop. He then played parts in many of the telenovelas of Globo. Some of them are- Olho no Olho in 1993, Patria Minha in 1994, Explode Coração in 1995, O Amor Esta no Ar in 1997, Hilda Furacao in 1998 (miniseries), Suave Veneno in 1999, and Mulheres Apaixonadas in 2003. From there onwards, his interest in acting intensified. Santoro got his first break in the mainstream cinema with Lais Bodansky’s Brainstorm (Bicho de Sete Cabecas) in 2001. He also won the Best Actor Trophy in the festival for this Portuguese film. His role was highly appreciated. Then he went on becoming the male lead in Behind the Sun (Abril Despedacado). This film was the nominated for Golden Globe Awards in 2002 under the category Best Foreign Film.

His next performance was a transsexual prisoner Lady Di in Hector Babenco’s Carandiru in 2003. His character Xerxes is very famous. Santoro’s recent works include The 33 in 2015, Focus in 2015; Jane Got a Gun in 2016, and Ben-Hur in 2016. His upcoming projects are Dominion and Pele: Birth of a Legend. His performance was also seen in television shows like Os Normais- Brazilian sitcom(2001), Pastores da Noite (2002), Hoje E Dia de Maria, Hoje E Dia De Maria: Segunda Jornada (2005), Som & Furia (2009), Papai Noel Existe (2010), As Brasileiras (2012), Velho Chicco, and Westworld 2016.
