Donna Murphy is an American singer and actress. He is known for her work in musical theater and the roles of Fosca in the Passion, The King and I as Anna Leonowens. She is noted as one of the best Broadway actresses. The Broadway plays include They're Playing Our Song, Hello Again. She has even worked on television series like Lifestories: Families in Crisis. She was born in New York Click to look into! >> Read More... and was the eldest child of Robert Murphy and Jeanne. The couple had seven children, and her Robert Murphy was an aerospace engineer. When she was three years old, her parents moved to Long Island, in New York. Over there she was a part of show Hauppauge. Later they moved to Massachusetts, and she studied at Masconomet Regional High School. She was a part of the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. She left New York University and got a chance to star in the musical Broadway They're Playing Our Song in 1979. She has appeared in many musical Broadway such as The Mystery of Edwin Drood in 1981 at the Public Theater, Birds of Paradise in the year 1987, Privates on Parade at the Roundabout Theatre in 1989. She was part of Michael John LaChiusa musical the Hello Again in 1993 which was at the Lincoln Center Mitzi Newhouse Theater. In 1995 at the Mitzi Newhouse Theater she was part of the play Twelve Dreams, and Helen in 2002 at the Public Theater in New York. In 2012, she was a part in the play Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim at the Public Theater's Delacorte Theatre.

She was even a part of musical/opera The Human Comedy in 1984. From 1985 to 1987 she played various roles in The Mystery of Edwin Drood. She was a part of Little Shop of Horrors, Twelve Dreams, The King and I opposite Lou Diamond Phillips. She played the character of Ruth Sherwood in Wonderful Town and Lotte Lenya, in LoveMusik alongside Michael Cerveris in 2007. She was part of the concert by Center Encores! She appeared in 2011 The People in the Picture by the Roundabout Theatre production. She is best known for her roles in film like Star Trek: Insurrection in 1998 as the love interest of Captain Jean-Luc Picard, the ballet teacher in the movie Center Stage; she played the role of Dr. Otto Octavius wife Rosalie Octavius in Spider-Man 2. She is honored many awards for her work. In 1994, she won the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for Passion and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical. For The King and I, she won the Tony Award and Drama Desk Award. In 2004 for Wonderful Town she won a Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Circle Award. In 2007 for LoveMusik she won the Drama League Award and Outer Critics Circle Award. She got married to Shawn Elliott, who was a singer and actor. In 2016, he died. The couple had adopted a girl child Darmia Hope from Guatemala and two daughters were from her husband's first marriage.
