Emily Watson is an actress of English origin, born on 14 January 1967 in Islington, London. Her mother, Katherine is an English teacher and Father Richard Watson, an architect. She completed her degree in Bachelor of Arts from the University of Bristol. Emily got married to actor and writer, Jack Water (whom she met at the Royal Shakespeare Company) in 1995 and they have two children named Juliet and Dylan. After completing her graduation, she trained at the Drama Studio in London for two years and later received an M.A, from the Bristol University. She started her career on stage and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1992. Her Theater credits include ‘The Children’s Hour’ at the Royal National Theater, A Jovial Crew’ and ‘The Taming of the Shew’ at the Royal Shakespeare Company. Watson’s portrayal as Bell McNeill won her the London, Los Angeles and New York Critics’ Circle Award for Best Actress. It was even premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 1996.

Her performance as Bess McNeill got ranked #18 on Premiere Magazine'’s 100 Greatest Performances of all time. She also starred in the American psychological thriller film ‘Red Dragon’ (a prequel to the Silence of Lambs and Hannibal), released in 2002. It received positive reviews from critics. Emily also got awarded as the Best Supporting Actress at the London Film Critics Circle in February 2003. Emily got appointed as an officer of the Order of British Empire (OBE) in the 2015 New Year Honours for services to Drama. She is a committed supporter of the National Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), a children’s charity. She got inducted into the society’s hall of fame for spearheading the successful campaign to appoint a Children’s Commissioner for England.
