Judith Anderson, a multi-talented actress of 90’s, was a Hollywood actress and theatre artist. Before starting her career as an actress, she had already made her name in the theatre industry by her theatre skills which impressed everyone. She even received various Awards for her acting and stage plays. In the late 90’s, she got the name of Dame Judith Anderson as she was made DBE- Dame Commander of the Order of British Empire. She was also seen on television, playing different roles for some time. Everyone applauded her for her television roles and she made a great career in the television industry too.

Judith Anderson was born in the year 1897 in Adelaide, South Australia. She was the daughter of Jessie Margaret and James Anderson-Anderson, who named her as Frances Margaret Anderson. She did her schooling at Norwood High School, present in her hometown. She gave many stage performances in the school and after that only she decided to join dramatics. She married Benjamin Harrison Lehmann, an English Professor, in 1937 and the couple got divorced after two years of their marriage in 1939. After few years, she married Luther Greene, a Theatre Producer in 1946, but this marriage also didn’t go well as the first one and she got a divorce again in the year 1951. Since both of her marriages ended in a divorce, she was never reported to have any child.

At the early age of 17, she gave her first stage performance professionally in ‘The Royal Divorce (Sydney),’ after which she got instructed by other talented actors and theatre artists. After few years of practice and work in Sydney, she decided to move to America. For few years she learned about theatre there and did some plays. After gaining enough experience, she did her first play on Broadway titled as ‘On the Stairs’. After the play ‘Cobra’ in 1924, which was a great success, she gave herself a new name, Judith Anderson. She soon became famous with this stage name.

After that, she was seen in plays like ‘The Green Hat’ and ‘Tea for Three ’, which displayed her acting skills. After few years of theatre and plays, she was regarded as a star of Broadway. Later, in the year 1933, she entered Hollywood in a supporting role in the film, “Blood Money”, directed by ‘Roland Brown’. After that, she did other plays like ‘Hamlet’ and ‘Mourning Becomes Electra’ instead of continuing her career in Hollywood.  In 1940, she was seen in a movie ‘Rebecca,’ for which she was even nominated for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ role in an Academy Award too. 

Later on, she did many other movies and stage shows. ‘Medea,’ a 1947 stage show, is one of them for which she received Tony Award (1948). ‘ Charles Laughton Charles Laughton was the son of Eliza and Robert L >> Read More... ’s “John Brown’s Body” is also one of them. “Kings Row” is one of her Hollywood movie which is known for her remarkable performance. She did few movies in 1950’s and then switched to theatre shows again to be a perfectionist. After that, she made an appearance on television and outshone in the television industry also.

In 1959, she appeared in ‘Medea,’ which was her theatre show recreated into a television. She was seen in Medea television series too. She also worked in “ Santa Barbara Santa Barbara is a television serial which was fir >> Read More... ”, an NBC serial. She worked in Santa Barbara till 1987. She never stopped performing and giving hits. Even her age couldn’t stop her. She worked even in her late 80’s when most of the people just sit back on their chair and relax. Her determination and passion helped her achieve success and make her name in the industry

Unfortunately, in 1992, at the age of 93, she died of pneumonia in California. Judith Anderson was seen in theatre shows, Hollywood movies and as well as in television industry. Nothing stopped her from working and she became a perfectionist in the field of acting.
