Kaling Vera Mindy is professionally known as a famous actress by the name Mindy Kaling, and is an American on-screen character, entertainer, and essayist. She is the inventor and star of the show, The Mindy Project, which is a Fox and Hulu sitcom. Furthermore, she serves as the official producer and author for the sitcom. She was born on 24 June in the year 1979, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. Her parents were Avu Chokalingam, an architect from Tamil Nadu, and Dr. Swati Chokalingam , an obstetrician/gynecologist from West Bengal. Both her parents are Hindus from India. She finished her graduation from Buckingham Browne and Nichols, in the year 1997, in Cambridge. She then entered Dartmouth College. In college, she became a member of the comedy group, "The Dog Day Players" and "The Rockapellas".

They made the funny cartoon, "Gravely Drawn Girl", in the school's everyday newspaper, The Dartmouth. She also worked as an editor for the Dartmouth Jack-O-Lantern, which was a magazine. She finished her graduation from the city in the year 2001 with a certificate in the art of playwriting. She even learned Latin in her seventh grade.
