S. Allen Counter is the director of Harvard University, professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School and administrator of Harvard University. He was born on July 8, 1954, in Americus Georgia, United States. From the past thirty years, Counter is serving at Harvard University. He holds the Doctor of Medical Science degree (D.M.Sc.) and Ph.D. His parents are Ann Johnson Counter and Samuel Counter. Dr. Counter belongs to West Palm Beach, Florida. He graduated in 1972 from Roosevelt High School and then got his B.S. degree in 1976 in science and biology from Tennessee State University. He did his Ph.D in 1979 from Western University. He completed his post graduate studies in Harvard University and then was appointed as the faculty at the University in the biology department.

Later he was promoted to the post of associate professor, and then in 1980, he became a professor of neurology. In 1989, he got his Doctor of Medical Science degree from Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. Counter began his research in Ecuador, South Africa. There he found out an extraordinary group of descendants of the 18th century slaves, who lived in the Andes. Later he produced a documentary film on these people, and the title of the movie was Lost Africans in the Andes. Then he begins his medical research in the Ecuadorian mountains to provide medical services and to study health conditions of the people. During his research, he found out lead and mercury poising among the children who worked in industries and mining areas. From 1993 till 2000, he continued his medical research. In 1989, he received the NAACP Image Award.

In 1994, he achieved the National Medical Association Hall of Fame Award and in 2003 was appointed as the visiting professor of Neuroscience. He was chosen Sweden's Consul General in Boston and England, by the Ambassador of Sweden to the United States and the King of Sweden. He represents Sweden in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Dr. Counter has written books like “I Sought My Brother: An Afro-American Reunion”, “North Pole Legacy”, and “North Pole Promise: Black, White, and Asian Friends”. He has worked at Harvard University and there he created a new course named Biology 128 which is considered advanced neurobiology. In different parts of the world, he has done scientific explorations. He presents lectures at diverse universities and institutions about his work of scientific research.
