Erin Cressida Wilson is a screenwriter, playwright from America. She is a professor and an author as well. She was born on 12th February 1964, in San Francisco, California, USA. Erin Cressida Wilson is married to John Charles "J. C." Mackenzie, an actor from Canada. He is known for his work on Vinyl in the Fox series Dark Angel and Skip Fontaine. They have a son named Liam.

She has written seven screenplays till now. And is known for the screenplay she wrote for the film Secretary in 2002, which she adapted and altered from a Mary Gaitskill short story. She won an award for Best First Screenplay at the Independent Spirit Award. Currently, Wilson has a rating of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes (an American review aggregation website for film and television).

Wilson, who graduated from Smith in 1985, studied with Berkman, who is the college's Anne Hesseltine Hoyt Professor of Theatre. Raised by 70’s bohemian parents, Wilson was often dragged by her parents to watch explicit foreign films like the Clay or the Vogue. It was through these movies that she got inspiration and education on erotica for her first script, Secretary.

Professionally her parents were English professors. Wilson says, she was never able to understand how she came to construct such a powerful screenplay for Secretary (2002) until Erin read her mother’s diary in which she found a record of her mother’s affair with her shrink, this made her understand that it was something she got from her mother. To her, it felt natural that in her early adulthood she would start writing plays about sex.

Wilson’s first and famous screenplay was for Secretary in 2002, directed by Steven Shainberg, Secretary was a romantic comedy-drama film. The movie is inspired by a short story from Bad Behavior by Mary Gaitskill, about the relationship between a dominant boss and his submissive secretary. Erin received a nomination for the Chlotrudis Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Erin Cressida Wilson’s another famous screenplay is The Girl on the Train in 2016, a mystery thriller from the novel by Paul Hawkins. The Girl on the Train is her highest earning film so far.

Other than these Wilson also wrote screenplays for the Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus released in 2006 starring Nicole Kidman as iconic American photographer Diane Arbus. Diane was recognized for her strange, disturbing images.

Chloe is a French-Canadian erotic thriller film directed by Atom Egoyan in 2009, a remake of the French film Nathalie (2003).
