Shonda Lynn Rhimes is a producer, and also a screenwriter, who was born on January 13, 1970, in Chicago, USA to Vera P. Cain, who is a university administrator and Ilee Rhimes, ( a college professor). Shonda has five siblings as there are three sisters out which she is youngest and two brothers. Her mother while attending the college also brought up the six children, so as to obtain a degree of Ph.D. in educational administration (in 1991), and her father holds a postgraduate degree in Master of Business Administration, who was chief information at the Southern California  University till 2013.

Shonda went to Marian Catholic High School, which was in Chicago Heights, Illinois. Later she attended Dartmouth College for obtaining a Bachelor degree in the field of English literature and creative writing.

She involved herself in fiction, acting and directing in various plays during her college days. After graduation, she migrated to San Francisco with her sibling, and there she found an advertising job in McCann Erickson. Later, she enrolled in the Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts, in screenwriting and television program where  she bagged the first rank in her class and also achieved the most prestigious Gary Rosenburg Writing Fellowship Award. She completed her Master of Fine Arts from the USC’s School of Cinema-Television and believes in achieving early success because of a mentor like a creative African-American producer, as he hired her as an intern at Denzel Washington's production company in the Mundy Lane Entertainment.

Soon after graduation, Shonda managed to make her ends meet by doing the job as an official administrator and counselor along with her work as a research director in the famous documentary that even won the award, named as  “Hank Aaron: Chasing the Dream” which came in 1995. (the famous singer), which was named Crossroads. In 2001, she wrote The Princess Diaries, which became famous at that time. While The Princess Diaries, part 2 didn't make much at the box office that came in 2004 but still she enjoyed working with Julie Andrews.

After 9/11 case, she was deeply touched with motherhood and took a decision to adopt a child Harper Lee. While staying back at home with an infant, she wrote a drama Grey's Anatomy, which was about the staff that worked at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital (later changed to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital), in Seattle, Washington. In 2005, the show went to the 12th season in 2015 and won Golden Globe for Rhimes for Best Television Series—Drama. In between, she did many excellent works, one was Scandal, on April 5, 2012, it was hit show while she also adopted the second baby child named Emerson Pearl.
