Frances Rosemary Walsh is a screenwriter, lyricist and a producer from Wellington, New Zealand-born on 10 January 1959. She has been nominated seven times for Academy Awards and has won three namely, Best Screenplay, Best Picture, and Best Original Song.

She belonged to the Irish ancestry and wanted to become a fashion designer. She passed out from the Wellington Girls College and later joined the Victoria University of Wellington with majors in English Literature and graduated in 1981. She was interested in music and performed in bands during college one of which was ‘Punk Rock’. She has two kids Billy and Kate.

She first wrote her script for the producer Grahame McLean in 1983 for his TV series ‘A Woman of Good Character’ after which she wrote scripts for other shows as well.

She met Peter Jackson in mid of the 1980s when he was doing his first movie which was a small budget one named as ‘Bad Taste.’ They both later collaborated on for his films, the first one was ‘Meet the Feebles’ which was a dark comedy released in 1989. Later in 2005, an affirmative nod was given to remake of King Kong, and they collaborate again together! The couple came together for the making of ‘The Lovely Bones’ which was a novel and then for the series ‘Hobbit’ which also was well appreciated by critics and audience loved it worldwide. She has put equal love and hard work in all the movies, especially in Lord of Rings and Hobbit series. She continues to work on much more films with her screen-writing and musical skills!

Her success can be rightfully measured as per the number of awards that she has received just for one film, that is “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”.

The awards that she acquired are namely, Academy Awards for “Best Film”, “Best Adapted Screenplay”, and “Best Original Song”.
