Born on the 24th of October, Aubrey Drake Graham is a Canadian rapper who also multitasks as a song producer, actor, lyricist and singer. Known popularly as Drake his rise to fame can be traced starting from his role as Jimmy Brooks in the television series Degrassi: The Next Generation. Born in Toronto, Canada, to parents Sandi Graham an educator and Dennis Graham, a drummer, his parents divorced when he was five, leaving a scar on his life. He has been quoted as saying that because of this he had to take up responsibilities quite early for his mother whom he loved with all his heart. He graduated in 2012 despite past discontinuities in his high school studies. Brought up by his mother in two neighbourhoods, West Road and Forest Hill respectively, he has explicitly stated how the economic variations in the societies of both places helped him grow because of the diverse experiences he received from these two areas. The repeated arrests of his father too affected him badly. From 2001 to up until 2009, he played the role of a basketball player in the Canadian TV series Degrassi doing a total of 138 episodes, and he has said how this would be the only source of income for his family, however, less it was. His first self- released mixtape ‘Room for Improvement’ came out in 2006, featuring artists like Trey Songz and Lupe Fiasco although Drake himself admitted to it having been without content. His second mixtape that also featured a single and a music video featuring Trey Songz came out in 2007 and was called ‘Comeback’. In 2007, Drake became the first unsigned Canadian rapper to have his music video featured on BET when his first single, "Replacement Girl" featured as the "New Joint of the Day". In June 2010, Drake released his first debut album ‘Thank Me Later’ after a lot of postponement and saw it reaching No.1 on Billboard 200 soon enough. It saw him collaborating with artists like Jay-Z, Kanye West and Lil Wayne. His first single from the album that released in May was titled ‘over’ and it reached No.14 on the Billboard top 100 and was critically too well received. His second single, released during the same month, titled ‘Find Your Love’ can be seen as his transition song towards singing. Next year, while touring in the UK, he announced he had started preparations for his third studio album ‘Nothing was the same’ which was in 2014 shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize.
