Ray LaMontagne is also known as Raymond; Ray Charles Jack LaMontagne is an American national who is in the field of music. He has served as a singer and lyricist. He has given hit albums like Till the Sun Turns Black, Ouroboros, Trouble, Supernova, Gossip in the Grain, and the Creek Don't Rise. He considered his great inspiration which actually encouraged him to be a musician is Stephen Stills. He heard his album and made up a mind of making a career in the music field.

He is very much appreciated by critics, and they have even compared him to various famous artists like Tim Buckley, Otis Redding, Nick Drake, The Band and Van Morrison. He was born in New Hampshire. LaMontagne was one of six kids, who were nursed by his mother. During his teenage days, he used to reside in Morgan. He was very interested in painting pictures of Dragons and Dungeons. He used to be more engaged in this rather than in his studies. After his graduation, he shifted to Lewiston and started working in a shoe factory.

His life changed when he heard the song Tree Top Flyer by Stephen Stills on the radio. The song inspired him a lot and within a fraction of a second, he decided to become a musician and singer. In 1999, he made a ten-song tape which was noticed by Jamie Ceretta. The production house on spot contracted LaMontagne, and he was on the team with producer Ethan Johns, His first album, Trouble. The album was very much appreciated by the critics.

The title of Trouble and the song Narrow Escape was very much liked by everyone. His next album came in 2006 Till the Sun Turns Black, under the label of RCA. He has also hum songs for various American television shows, like One Tree Hill, Bones, and ER. After that, he gave many songs for television songs which were huge Chartbusters. In 2012, he gave his fourth album, God Willin' & the Creek Don't Rise. The album was produced by Ethan Johns. The song featured a band named Pariah Dogs.

The members of the band included Eric Heywood as the guitarist, Jay Bellerose as the drummer and Jennifer Condos served as the bassist. The song featured at the number three position of the American album and even served LaMontagne his first Grammy award for the Best Contemporary Folk Album. His fifth album Supernova was released in 2014 which was produced by Dan Auerbach.

The album was a huge hit and was ranked at the number one position of the Billboard character of Top Rock Albums chart; the album was marked in the third position on the Billboard Top 200. In 2015 he came up with the song Please, which ranked in the second position of single charts by iTunes.

He is married to Sarah Sousa and has two children. The family resides in Massachusetts, which was the house of William C. Bullitt. LaMontagne considers himself as a very private person and does not like making his personal life public. He has been awarded the MOJO Awards in the category of Best New Act and even received the Best Voice Award by Esquire. In 2010 he was honored with Best Contemporary Folk Album by Grammy.
