Enrique Martin Morales, commonly known as Ricky Martin was born on December 24, 1971, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He is a singer, actor and an author by profession.

FAMILY DETAILS:

Martin was born to Nereida Morales and Enrique Martín Negroni, who were an accountant and psychologist respectively. Unfortunately, Martin's parents got divorced when he was two. EARLY LIFE: Martin was influenced by his mother's side of the family where they were musically inclined. He became a singer as well as a poet at the age of six. After noticing an advertisement about auditions for a television commercial, Martin began to appear for commercials like soft drinks, fast foods, etc. by he age of 9. In a year and a half, he appeared in eleven commercials.

HIS LIFE AT MENUDO:

Then came a golden opportunity to participate in the audition to join “MENUDO” a Puerto Rican Boy Band. He was initially rejected by the team just because he was short. Finally after three auditions, his persistence and perseverance paid off. In 1984, thirteen-year-old Martin became a member of the Puerto Rican Boy Band. He enjoyed travelling to a variety of places and performing with Menudo but as days passed by the reputation of the band started to fade away. After recording almost eleven albums with Menudo, he decided to quit the band and plan for his future.

ACTING AND MUSIC CAREER:

After leaving Menudo, he was admitted to New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. But unfortunately, a month before his classes began he moved to Mexico City for an opportunity to perform in play “Mama Ama el Rock (Mom Loves Rock)”. On noticing the acting expertise of Martin, a producer offered him a role in “telenovela Alcanzar Una Estrella” a Mexican play. He joined the crew for the second season also. In 1990, he joined Sony Discos for his first ever solo album in Spanish, which was released in November 1991. He travelled throughout Latin America to promote his album “Ricky Martin”. He then recorded his second album for Juan Carlos Calderon named “Me Amaras”. He also continued to act in an American sitcom “Getting By” and on the soap opera “General Hospital”. Later on, he began a successful career in music and acting. Several awards and recognitions added feathers to his crown in the field of both music and acting industry. He travelled all over the world spreading his talent in singing.

PERSONAL LIFE:

Martin is open to all religions though he likes Buddhism. He began practicing yoga from 1997. Martin enjoys surfing, skydiving and vacationing in India specifically for its spiritual places. Martin got married to Rebecca de Alba, who was a Mexican TV host and became the father of twin boys Matteo and Valentino, born by a surrogate mother, though.

OTHER INTERESTS: Other than his passion for music, acting and poetry, he also developed an interest in social works especially in the prevention of trafficking, protection of youngest victims of child trafficking and so on. “Ricky Martin Foundation” is a non-profit organisation started to support for the goodness of children around the world. His primary project focused on eliminating the trafficking of children which he named as “People for children Project”. Tsunami Relief by his foundation grabbed everyone's attention towards his service to the society. He volunteered himself to visit the affected places directly which was highly notable. He still continues his service to both society and music industry.
