Sam Smith

Samuel Frederick Sam Smith was born on 19th May, 1992, in London of the United Kingdom.

He is the son of Kate Cassidy and Frederick Smith. His mother was a broker by profession.

He did his schooling from the St. Mary’s Catholic School.

Samuel was a member of the Bishop Stort Ford’s Theater Society and also of the Cantate community choir.

His singing career started in the year 2007.

He got his break in 2012 after the release of his song titled Latch, featuring the band 'Disclosure'. This song was ranked 11th on the chart of UK singles.

‘La La La’ brought Sam massive success as it was ranked the number 1 song of the month by the UK Singles Chart.

Sam’s second album was released in February 2014, and it was titled In The Lonely Hour. Money on My Mind was his most famous song from this album, which was written by him. This song got the 1st rank at the UK Singles Chart and also got the 4th position on the Singles Chart of Ireland. The song received mixed reviews from the viewers. The album received the Juno Award of 2015 for being the Best International Album of the Year.

In May 2014, in an interview, Sam openly admitted that he was a gay. He was in a relationship with Jonathan Zeizel, who is an American actor and model.

During an interview with the 4Music, he disclosed about his struggle in coping up with OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). He had a habit of checking the taps at regular intervals and making sure that they were turned off.

Smith has always considered himself to be a feminist and has always talked about women in a very respectful manner through his songs.

In 2015, he did his first tour called In the Lonely Hour Tour. The tour started at Georgia and ended in Australia.

He is the recipient of the Oscar Award 2016 under the category of Best Original Song for Writing’s on the Wall. He has also received the Favorite Pop Male Artist Award at the American Music Awards in 2014.

Sam is the godfather of Jackson, who is the son of his collaborator, Jimmy Napes.
