James Blunt is an English singing artist, who was born on 22 February 1974 in Hampshire, England. Born in a family with a glorious military background, James is the eldest child in his family. His father, Colonel Charles Blount was a decorated defense personnel, taking up various positions such as in the armed forces. His mother’s name is Jane Ann Farran Blount. He pursued his education in two different schools namely Elstree and Harrow respectively. He opted for Aerospace Manufacturing Engineering and Sociology at Bristol University. Before entering into the music industry, James initially served in the armed forces.

He became a captain after serving in the Life Guards, one of the reconnaissance regiments. In 1999, he was involved with NATO in the Kosovo War. The objective of James’ troop was to locate and target the Serbian forces. During this intense war, James used to play guitar and perform for the troops to lighten up their moods. However, recording label executives were apprehensive of Blunt, citing his posh speaking voice as one of the reasons. Apparently, the song “Goodbye My Lover” was recorded in Fishers’ bathroom. But, the song “You’re Beautiful” turned out to be the turning point in his career as the song topped the charts for weeks in the UK.

This song also topped the American singles chart, making James the first British artist to achieve the feat after Elton John. In 2006, Blunt was nominated for Brit Awards in five categories, out of which he won Best British male solo artist and Best Pop categories. He also won Best Male Video for his song “You’re Beautiful” at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards. His songs continued to garner recognition, resulting in the use of songs in advertisements and shows. At the 49th Grammy Awards, James performed “You’re Beautiful” which was dedicated to the late Ahmet Ertegun. As per the records, “Back to Bedlam” sold 11.2 million copies worldwide and entered the prestigious Guinness Book of World Records for becoming the fastest selling album in a single year.

In September 2007, James launched his second album “All the Lost Souls.” Blunt recorded most of the songs at his Ibiza studio. For the first single of this album, his time at an Ibiza Club inspired James to write “1973” which became a hit. The album was met with mixed reviews with a rating of 53/100 on Metacritic. Nevertheless, Blunt released his third album “Some Kind of Trouble” in 2010. With the songs such as “Stay the Night” and “So Far Gone,” the album sold over one million copies. His fourth album, Moon Landing was released in 2013 with the lead single “Bonfire Heart” debuting in the top 10 in various countries.

In 2014, he re-released Moon Landing with the album being renamed as Moon Landing- Apollo Edition. The album contained five new tracks to the original album. In 2017, he announced the launch of his fifth album “The Afterlove.” Blunt gained his private pilot license at the age of sixteen. Blunt’s university education was sponsored by the Army; he was obliged to serve in the force for a minimum period of four years. He resides in Ibiza mainly. Alongside Carl Fogarty and Lawrence Dallaglio, he opened a restaurant named La Vache in Verbier, Switzerland.

In 2016, the singer confirmed that the couple became parents to a baby boy. Blunt was awarded the Honorary Degree in Music from Bristol University in the same year. James has been associated with MSF frequently by organizing meet-and-greet auctions and filming the documentary “Return to Kosovo.” He happens to be a patron of Help for Heroes, which aims to equip wounded British soldiers with better facilities.
