Matthew Morrison

Fondly called as “Matty Fresh," Matthew James "Matt" Morrison was born on October 30, 1978, in the city of Fort Ord, California, to Tom and Mary Morrison. Morrison has been raised in Chico, California. He is of Scottish heritage. Since Morrison grew up in a military family, he calls himself “army brat.” And this is the reason why he says that he had an unusual upbringing in many ways. When Morrison was young, after joining the Theatre camp, he had developed an in-terest in performing and becoming an entertainer. He was part of Collaborative Arts Project and the Orange County High School of the Arts, while he was at the Los Alamitos High School campus. Here, he proved himself to be a great performer and a soccer player. After graduating from the high school, he joined the New York University in New York City.

He learned music, theatre, vocal, and dance performance at the Tisch School of Arts. In the 1990s, he dropped out of college and had been cast in the Broadway musical, Footloose. Footloose is the story of a boy, who is in his teenage years moves to a small town where activities like listening to music and dancing is not allowed. Morrison was a member of the Ensemble, and was also an understudy for one of the roles. After this, he played a small part in the Rocky Horror picture show. During this time, Morrison had tried to get into the music business as a member of “LMNT," a boy band. But, the group could not reach the heights of success and as a result, failed. The real musical career of Morrison started in 2002 with the musical “Hairspray,” which had been based on the film John Waters.

The musical was a huge hit commercially and critically, running for more than 2,600 performances and attaining eight Tony Awards. Meanwhile, Morrison also pursued his acting career. He made guest appearances on a few tv shows like Sex and the City, Hack, and Encino Man. His self-proclaimed favourite role he did on television was The Wonderful World of Disney: Once Upon a Mattress. It was a musical that starred the actress Carol Burnett. He had been nominated for a “Tony Award” for his character in the show, "The Light in the Piazza,” but had eventually left the show in late 2005. In “As The World Turns,” he tried a soap opera as well. “10 million miles” was Morrison’s another musical. It is based on the songs of Patty Griffin.

During this time, Morrison had been engaged to the actress, Chrishell Stause. The two had split later on. In 2008, Morrison bagged the most famous role of his life, “ Glee Glee is one of the most in-demand and eminent Amer >> Read More... .” Glee was a comedy series about a high school glee club. Morrison played the role of Will Schuester, a teacher who is the head of the much-maligned club. In 2010, Morrison worked on his music. He had signed a recording deal with Mercury Records and had released his debut album the next year. In 2011, Morrison started dating Renee Puente. Morrison and Puente had been married on October 18, 2014. The occasion had been held at a private home. The location chosen for this occasion was the island of Maui. In 2015, Morrison came back to the Broadway stage and portrayed famed playwright l.m. Barrie in a new musical named as finding Neverland. Currently, the curly haired,5'11” man resides in the New York City.
