Michael C. Hall was born on 1st February 1971 in North Carolina to Janice Hall and William Carlyle Hall. His father worked in the top company IBM and Mother is a health counselor at Lees-McRae College. Hall was their single child as his sister couldn't survive birth. It is regarded that his father suffered from Prostate Cancer which was detected in 1982.However, He died soon. At that time Hall had just entered his teens; to be precise, he was 11 years old. Since then, he was under the study of his mother who imbibed in him ethical and moral values and too inspired him to make acting his profession.

An insight into his personal life, tells us that Hall did his schooling from Ravenscroft School located in Raleigh and graduated in 1989. In 1993, he joined the Earlham College, a famous arts college situated in Richmond, Indiana. In 1996, he got admitted himself in the Tisch School of the Arts, pursuing the Graduate Acting Programme at New York University.

Hall married Amy Spanger, a successful actress of the American Film Industry in 2002. However, Their relationship couldn’t survive and in 2005 they separated, filing a divorce in a civil court. It seems that due to Chemotherapy, he lost his hair but is now fully set to make his comeback in the Dexter's new season.

Hall is an active social worker. He does charity and is an active participant in the Aid Society functioning in Somalia that feeds poor and underprivileged people. He has taken initiatives to protect and promote skin care. He is the face of many medical related fun raising events.

Hall had a passion for acting and theater very early in life. This is evident through his participation in such activities from the second class itself. From the fifth grade, he sang in the boys' choir. Also, he attended and performed in Musical programs held at the school level. From his youth, He actively participated in standards like the Sound of Music, The Roof, and Oklahoma! This inspired him to take up his dream career of acting. He further harnessed his career by taking up lead roles in production and skits at his college's stage show "Cabaret." Hall embarked on his career path by beginning acting in the theater. He marked his way into well-known plays of the time, namely Macbeth and Cymbeline at the Shakespeare Festival held in New York. He acted in a plethora of plays like Timon of Athens, The English Teachers and the very critical and controversial play of Corpus Christi. He organized his production in workshops. Later on, these came to be labeled as Bounce and Road Show. He formed a part of the Shakespeare Festival of Texas that was held in the summer of '95.

In 2003, Hall worked on the movie Paycheck, as an Agent Klein. Since 2009, Hall has done a multitude of movies assuming the lead roles in the majority of them. 2009, Gamer, roped in Hall for doing the character of Ken Castle. In 2012, he was projected in the lead role of Morris Bliss for the film, "The Trouble with Bliss." He then featured in the 2014 film, Cold in July. He made his debut in the 2016 movies like Christine playing the role of George Ryan. He will be shortly seen in his upcoming film, Felt, whose shooting is on track right now.

He debuted in several television shows. However, the most popular of all is the sequel of Dexter. The show aired from 2006 till 2013 completing a mark of 96 episodes.
