Harpal Singh Sokhi is an Indian celebrity chef who is also one of India’s top 10 YouTubers. He has worked with a lot of restaurant chains and, later on, launched his own- The Funjabi Tadka. Harpal hails from a middle-class Punjabi family from West Bengal where his father was with the Indian Railways. He has two sisters and one brother. He once mentioned in an interview that his mother’s cooking inspired him, and that is why he took it up as a career. His brother has also cooked food at a langar. He wanted to pursue engineering, but it seemed that he was not that excellent at academics. Looking at other options, he decided to apply for IAF, but it was too late as he had already crossed the maximum age limit.
Then later through a friend, he came to know about a hotel management career, and that is when he enrolled in the IHM, Bhubaneswar in 1984. In 1987, he got his diploma from IHM and started his career as a cook in The Oberoi, Bhubaneswar. By the time he was 27, he was already the executive chef. He always loved to learn new cuisines, and he kept on trying to learn various international ones. He went on to work with the big hotels like Blue Cilantro, The Regent, Taj Lands End, etc.
Over the years Harpal has also hosted many cooking shows on television like ‘

Turban Tadka’ on Food Food, ‘Kitchen Khiladi’ and many more. His YouTube Channel also has drawn a lot of subscribers and is followed widely not just by Indian but also the international audience.
