Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam

Dr. Padma was born on February 4th, 1943 in Madras, which is now Chennai. She is known for dancing in Indian dance form Bharatnatyam. She is a citizen of India and follows Hindu religion. The most popular awards she has bagged are Padma Shri (1981) and Padma Bhushan (2003). She’s a choreographer, dancer, musician, music composer, author and teacher. She has done her Bachelor’s in Music, Master in Ethnomusicology and a Ph.D. in Dance. Her family consists of her well-known Father Krishnaswami Subrahmanyam and her mother is Meenatchi Subramaniam. Her sisters are Leela Subrahmanyam and Lalitha Subrahmanyam One of her Sibling is prominent Bhama Subrahmanyam. Her brothers are Chandrasekar Subrahmanyam, S.V. Ramanan, Balakrishnan Subrahmanyam and Abaswaram Ramji Subrahmanyam.

Biography

Dr. Padma is born to the family of a filmmaker. Dr. Padma was born to director Father, as well as a freedom-fighter and a lyricist mother. Her mother was also Multi-talented with skills as Dancing, Harmonium, Instrumentalist, and Choreography. Dr.Padma, besides her performances never left her concentration on studies. She has written many books and articles and has contributed to the fields of education and culture. She was also a lecturer. The many sculptures (108) of Nataraja and Parvathi is designed by her. From composing a Bengali Varanam, writing an article on ‘Legacy of a Legend' to introducing PUSHPANJALI, the works have been done by the Multi-talented, most versatile dancer Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam. She has been awarded and honored for the same.
