Nikhil Thampi

Nikhil Thampi is one of India’s most famous and flamboyant personalities, as a Scorpio usually is. This distinguished fashion designer was born on the 4th of November, 1986 in the quaint port city of Bombay. He followed through with his education at the Bombay Cambridge School and the Bombay Scottish School, after which he pursued a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology.

Despite being born into a family of aviators, Thampi always had an artistic streak in him, which was emphasized both to himself as well as his friends and family when he lent a helping hand to a fellow student studying at NIFT for setting up her stall for the event of Lakme Fashion Week.

From then on, Thampi’s love for fashion ignited, and he set forth to learn the ropes of the industry and completely immerse himself in the glory that he has attained today. His first steps included signing up for the Lakme Fashion Week in 2011, under the NextGen Designer category, with his collection called “This is how I Feel” in which he was one of the eight contestants who was selected out of eight thousand.

This win attributed to Thampi’s natural talent as a designer and spurred him on into continuing the passion. Having no formal training in his current field, Thampi had very hands-on experience in learning how to go about designing his lines, through interaction with people from all walks of the business, including tailors, karigars, and the like. He had considerable constraints while working as well, such as the technical aspects of the field as he had no prior training – but he plowed forward anyway to accede to the fame he currently enjoys.
