Ashim Ahluwalia was born in Mumbai in 1972. He is a very talented person. He is a film director. Not only that, but he is also a producer and a script writer. He has been active in the film industry since 1999 till present. His debut as a director was in a movie named John and Jane, which was a documentary and a short length film, released in 2005. In the Toronto I. F. Festival, it had a world premiere. It even had a European Premiere. It happened in the Berlin I. F. Festival.

John and Jane was such a good movie that Ashim won the 2005 Best First Non-Feature Film by a Director National Filmfare Award. In the 61st National Filmfare Awards, the film Miss Lovely won several awards. Ashim won the National Film Award for India, jury’s award for best film, and even got the best design for productions. He is one of the very few Bollywood Directors who has diverted themselves from mainstream Bollywood commercial movies.

He has redefined the difference between fiction movies and short or documentary films. He has no dream of working with popular, big Bollywood superstars. He is more inclined in making films of his thoughts, unconventional movies. He wants to make movies which have a hidden meaning, unlike commercial movies, without any proper meaning. He graduated with a degree in filmmaking in the year 1995. Ahluwalia did not strike gold at the beginning of his career.

He used to experiment with films between 1993 and 2002. One of his short films, The Dust in 1993, was made after making certain adjustments, amendments to the home movies that his grandfather had shot before, earlier in the 1950s. In 2005 he opened his production house titled, Future East, with the aim of making movies totally different from the mainstream Bollywood movies. San Fransico Film Society chose Ashim as their Artist in Residence in the year 2013.

He even received the C. F. K. award from his college back in 2013. The award means that he had contributed successfully to the heritage of Film and Art culture. Ahluwalia also featured in the top ten list of Best Emerging Directors in 2010. Among the short films and installations that he made are A Short Season in 1995, Thin Air in 1999, and much more. He is also doing a Feature Film titled Daddy, which is yet to be released, and we hope he rocks with this movie as well.
