Avinash Gowarikar is an Indian photographer who has predominantly worked in Indian film Industry. He was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He completed his schooling at Cathedral and John Connon School, Bombay. He was more into drama and photography as a kid rather than studies. Though, he used to score well in his studies. Avinash Gowarikar developed a keen interest towards photography when he was eight years old when his father gifted him a camera on his birthday. He used to love clicking pictures of flora and fauna. Apart from photography, he was also the member of his college’s drama club. He used to play the role of lead actor in the dramas. He also loves to travel around the state. Avinash Gowarikar has travelled to various places and his photo albums clearly describe the fun he had over there.

After completing his schooling, he got admission in Mumbai University. After completing first year at college, he decided to drop out and achieve his goal of becoming a photographer. His father trusted his talents and bought him a brand new camera. With the help of Ashutosh Gowarikar, he made his way to the Indian Film Industry. At first, it was quite hard for him to get any big assignments, so he had to work at low budget fashion shoots. But later, he got to work with Bollywood superstars such as Aamir Khan, and Salman Khan. In an interview, he said “I am really thankful to Aamir Khan to provide me my first big break, and Salman Khan to always support me, even at my worse.” He also said, “I’m in debt of Ashutosh Gowariker, to lending me an opportunity to assist him and for introducing me to Aamir Khan.” He worked as an assistant director, photographer, and an assistant at camera department and sound crew.

He also enjoys creating some drama inherent in shooting genres, such as Film Posters as well as Portraiture, Editorial, and Fashion. He greatly admires Gautam Rajadhyaksha and Richard Avedon. He is really amused with their photography skills. He has worked in various Bollywood films. In 1995, he worked as an assistant director in the movie Baazi. Later, he worked in the sound and camera department in various movies. In 1998, he worked as a still photographer in the movie Soldier, directed by Abbas Alibhai Burmawalla, and Mastan Alibhai Burmawalla, starring Rakhlee Gulzar, Bobby Deol, and Preity Zinta. He was appreciated for his work and also the work environment e creates. He has worked in many other super hit films such as Aa Ab Laut Chalein, Hadh Kar Di Apne, No Entry, Heyy Babyy, Badma$h Company, Chennai Express, Hawaa Hawaai, Dangal, and Secret Superstar as a still photographer.
