He is the third son of Razia Ali and Mansoor Ali who is an executive at Tata Steel. He also has a sister named Atya and a niece named Ida. The family traces their origin to Darbhanga in Jharkhand. He married Mahid Ayesha Ali on 9th October 2011. He was born and raised in Jamshedpur in Jharkhand. He studied at Loyola School in Jamshedpur. He did his graduation from Jai Hind College in Mumbai where he developed an interest in short story writing and wrote scripts for the theater. In 2008, he joined a course in filmmaking in London before returning in 2009.

In 2011, he wrote a socio-political script for Shree Ashtvinayak Cine Vision but the project was shelved. Sajid was shooting the film in Jamshedpur. Sajid was also shooting Loyola School and recruited actors from the school. His father Mansoor is to play the school’s principal. The film was supposed to release in April 2015 but was delayed due to various reasons including the renaming process. The movie is a slice of life high school drama based in Jamshedpur.
