Imtiaz Punjabi is an actor-turned-writer and director. He is better known for directing the comedy film Fun2shh… Dudes in the 10th Century (2003). Imtiaz is now a well known Hindi TV soap writer and director with successful shows like Maryada: Lekin Kab Tak? (Star Plus) and Parvarrish- Kuchh Khattee Kuch Meethi (Sony Entertainment Television) under his credit. Imtiaz Punjabi started off as a theatre actor and a few years later turned into a writer. He wrote a few initial episodes of Daastan, a TV show aired on Zee TV in the mid-1990s and Chattan, also aired on Zee TV in 2001.

He started his career in direction with the serial Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin starring Mona Singh and Apurva Agnihotri, for Sony Entertainment Television. The show, based on the Colombian drama Yo soy Betty, la fea (English Translation: Ugly Betty), aired from 2003-2007 and turned into a very popular soap. He then directed another famous serial Maryada: Lekin Kab Tak? which aired from 2010 to 2012 on Star Plus, starring Raqesh Vashisth and Riddhi Dogra. Since then he has directed many Hindi soaps like Baat Hamari Pakki Hai (2010-2011) and Parvarrish- Kuchh Khattee Kuch Meethi (2011-2013), both for Sony Entertainment Television and Kaisa Yeh Ishq Hai- Ajab Sa Risk Hai (2013-2014) for Life OK.

The versatile Imtiaz, who always wanted to become a producer, has also co-produced the TV drama Nadaan Parindey Ghar Aaja that aired on Life OK in 2014. Imtiaz Punjabi tried his hands in Bollywood and directed the comedy movie Fun2shh… Dudes in the 10th Century, starring Paresh Rawal, Mohammad Iqbal Khan, Anuj Sawhney and Gulshan Grover as leads. The story revolves around three friends who crash through a strange wall and gets transported back to the 10th century straight into the court of an Emperor.

The movie got an IMDb rating of 4.5/10. The ace director was honoured with the Indian Television Academy Award for the Best Director- Drama in 2011 for Bade Achhe Lagte Hain and Maryada: Lekin Kab Tak? and again in 2012 for Parvarrish- Kuchh Khattee Kuch Meethi. He was also nominated for the Indian Telly Jury Award for Best Director (Soap and Drama) as well as Star Guild Award for Best Director for Parvarrish- Kuchh Khattee Kuch Meethi. Imtiaz is known to be quite sweet towards his cast and is loved and respected by his actors as a director. He believes that the work of a director is to convey the message of the writer to the audience at large. He puts a lot of effort to bring out the creativity of his shows, and his dedication makes him deliver such successful shows.
