Neeraj Ghaywan is a director who was born and raised in Hyderabad. He finished his engineering and went on to pursue MBA. He was always interested in watching movie but his interest towards filmmaking grew after listening to Samar Nakhate’s lecture who was a professor of ‘FTII- Film& Technology Institute’, India. After finishing his MBA, he was placed in Tech Mahindra. From there, he moved to the marketing department of Hindustan Times. During his time there, he started following “Passion for Cinema” blog and writing forum posts here.

Since he liked the movies made by UTV Pictures, he applied for the post of UTV Spot boy. But he ended up being recruited into the digital marketing team of UTV New Media. Though the job offered him good money, he felt like being burnt out and that the job offered him no satisfaction. After consulting with Anurag Kashyap, he quit his job and took a complete leap into the world of filmmaking and joined Anurag Kashyap and spent the next 2 and a half years working on “Gangs of Wasseypur”.
Neeraj stated that “Gangs of Wasseypur” has helped him learn a lot about direction. Neeraj directed Shorts in 2013 and “ Masaan Click to look into! >> Read More... ” in 2015. He also worked as a second unit director for Anurag Kashyap’s “Ugly(2013)”. “Masaan” won two awards “FIPRESCI” (International Federation of Film Critics) and “Promising Future award” at the ‘Sundance Film Festival’ held at Cannes,France. He also directed short films like “Shor” in 2011 and “Epiphany” in 2013. Neeraj has acknowledged Anurag Kashyap as his mentor when it comes to filmmaking. He said that the road from quitting his corporate job 2 years ago and winning 2 international awards was only possible due to Anurag Kashyap. Neeraj after this grand success is on cloud nine and we can’t wait for the release of “Masaan” on 24th July in India.
