Born on April 30th, 1955 Pradeep Sarkar is best known for his debut directorial venture Parineeta. Besides being a director, Pradeep also endeavored into writing and production. He kickstarted his career in Bollywood through Vinod Chopra Productions owned by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

Parineeta, released in 2005, created an impact on the audiences. It was also famous actress Vidya Balan’s first movie. It was a musical drama film which was based on 1914’s Bengali novella by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay of the same name. Beside Vidya Balan, the movie featured the suave Saif Ali Khan and the versatile Sanjay Dutt. Pradeep got the Best Director accolade in National Film Awards for this movie. He also garnered a couple of other awards including those given for Best Art Direction and The Most Promising Director. Also, he got nominated for Filmfare’s Best Director Award for Parineeta.

Pradeep’s next movie was under the banner of Yash Raj Films, starring Rani Mukherji titled, “ Laaga Chunari Mein Daag”. Released in October 2007, it showed Rani as a prostitute and her efforts to keep her family stable. The movie had a talented star cast including Jaya Bachchan and her son Abhishek Bachchan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Hema Malini, Anupam Kher, etc. The film failed to do a good business, though.

Pradeep was also the Visual Director for the 2005 movie Eklavya: The Royal Guard. His next venture was Lafangey Parindey featuring Neil Nitin Mukesh and Deepika Padukone. This movie, too, went unnoticed.

In 2014, Pradeep directed Mardaani, which again starred Rani Mukherji under the Yash Raj Films banner. This movie was a hit. He has also directed a short video, Dhoom Pichuck (Euphoria) in 1998.

Pradeep handled Art Department for a Tv Series called “Not a Nice Man To Know.” He was the assistant director and music director for movie “ Mission Kashmir” in 2000. He also handled Camera and Electrical Department for “Everybody Says I’m Fine!”

Currently, Pradeep is writing a story based on his life experiences which he wants to turn it into a film. He says it is half written as of now, and he is still working on it.
