Vijaya Mulay is a filmmaker, Educationist, Historian and a Writer. She was born on 16 May 1921 in Mumbai. People also know her by name Akka. She is one of the biggest personalities that influenced filmmaking industry across globe. She has given birth to a great personality who won National award Sushani Mulay. Vijaya Mulay’s family is one of the renowned families of India. Vijaya Mulay as an Educationist is remembered by her movie Ek anek aur ekta. Her movie Ek anek aur ekta won National movie award for the best Educational Film.

Vijaya Mulay started his career in the very backward state of India which symbolizes her hard work, passion, and dedication towards her career and dreams, Yes I am talking Bihar. It was Patna where Vijaya got a Bachelor’s Degree from Bihar. So Bihar has great impact on Vijaya Mulay. Vijaya Mulay was very passionate about English films so she started watching and visiting cinema. She was in love with the English language. Her husband was transferred to Patna so Vijaya accompanied him to Bihar, that was the reason behind her visiting Bihar.

English movies were shown in theaters known by Bioscopes at half prices on Sundays, So it was very often for her to visit the cinemas as she was passionate about English media. It was 1946 when Vijaya got an opportunity to go for her Master’s degree. She got a scholarship to complete her Master’s degree from University of Leeds from UK. Vijaya was very happy to go to UK for further education as she was so passionate about research and education. She had visits to cinemas in her extra times to watch some and hence she was in touch to the film making as she was getting an idea of the film making. After completing her Masters she came back to India. Here she was appointed as Education officer in New Delhi. Vijaya soon after coming back to India lead the foundation of Open Delhi Film Society where she implemented her vast ideas and experiences she collected from her previous visits of UK.

Vijaya was so blessed with her talent and by her efforts she totally changed the way of filmmaking. Soon after the foundation of Open Delhi film society other eight film societies came to Vijaya and they made a joint effort to create Federation of film societies of India. Vijaya during her life time worked with various organizations like UNICEF and NCERT. Vijaya during her lifetime was awarded on various prestigious occasions. She was honored by government of India for V Shantaram award for exceptional documentaries on International film festival in Mumbai.
