Vikram Bhatt (Born 1969) is a prominent film director, producer, and screenwriter of Indian cinema. He has worked as the creative head of ASA Productions and Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. until the year 2014. Bhatt was born and brought up in Mumbai, India. He is the grandson of Vijay Bhatt from Gujarat, Palitana. Vijay Bhatt is one of the pioneers of the Indian film industry.

Vikram’s father is cinematographer Pravin Bhatt. In the year 1982, when he was only 14, Bhatt started working with prominent Indian director Mukul Anand in his first film, Kanoon Kya Karega. Bhatt was the chief assistant of Mukul Anand on the sets of the blockbuster Agneepath, which is considered as a cult classic, despite not being a box office success.

Later, Vikram worked with director Shekhar Kapur for more than two years and subsequently with director Mahesh Bhatt for a couple of years. He has worked as an assistant director for Mahesh Bhatt in many super hit films like Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and Junoon. His directorial debut was Mukesh Bhatt produced film Jaanam. Vikram’s first four works could not impress the box office. Success came with directorial project Fareb.

After this, he had a series of hit films such as Ghulam, Kasoor, Raaz and Awara Paagal Deewana. Then again, he found himself in the box office failure zone. Nevertheless, in this period, he did get average hit films like Deewane Huye Paagal and Ankahee. The year 2008 was a comeback year for him. Bhatt put his hand in the horror category and got three box office hits. These films were ‘ 1920’, Shaapit and Haunted – 3D. The latter was the first stereoscopic 3D in India. The film was released in May 2011 and set the record for the highest earning Hindi horror film of all time, making Rs. 270 million at the box office. His subsequent horror success was Raaz-3D with a collection of 46 Million.

His other films in the same category are ‘1920: The Evil Returns’ and Creature-3D In 2014, he hosted a TV show named Ishq Kills on Star Plus, which is about romance in common people’s life. Vikram Bhatt and his ex-wife Aditi Bhatt, have a daughter, Krishna Bhatt, who has been assisting him on his films.
