Sanjeev Bhargava, director and founder of Seher, is an alumnus of Delhi’s Modern School, Barakhamba Road and a degree holder in history from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. He was just a step away to go to the prestigious Oxford University and be with his older brother but his father passed away suddenly at the early age of 47, and he was propelled to carry on with his father’s business of film distribution. At that time there were 17 films which were lying unreleased in India.

Until he finished his father’s incomplete work, he found himself lying deep down in the film industry which was as per him not his cup of tea. At the age of 18, he started working as an actor in theater and changed the genre of his father’s film company to the offbeat cinema. ‘ Aakrosh Click to look into! >> Read More... ’ (1980) was his first film which he sold in Russia, Hungary and at Cannes and Berlin’s International Film Festivals. He also produced films like ‘ Masoom Click to look into! >> Read More... ’ and ‘ Elizabeth Bio coming soon... >> Read More... ’. He financed in the films like ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ and ‘Ardh Satya’ which released in the year 1983.

In a couple of years, VHS system engulfed theater screening and was preferred by the consumers for watching films with which Bhargava’s relationship with the offbeat cinema came to an end. Because of the advent of this drastic change, the film distribution business of the offbeat cinema fell by 50 per cent and was about to vanish soon. After this, Bhargava took up the dealership of the hit 1980’s Maruti cars and sold his first order of a Maruti Gypsy to Rajasthan Police.

In 1992, he fell in love with music all over again. He learned classical music for years and sang ghazals at that time at All India Radio for youth programs. He got swayed by the vocalist Pandit Kumar Gandharva, whom he believes to have changed his life. His teachings and bhajans had a great impact on Bhargava and helped him to move forward in life. In 1993 when he decided to give up everything, Seher came up as a new morning in his life. Before Gandharva’s death, he named Seher in 1992.

With the aim of taking music to the masses, Bhargava organized a festival at India International Centre, Delhi which he dedicated to Gandharva. He took permission from the then chief minister to hold a dance event Ananya, at a public monument and as he had a political will, everything went well. He has created a niche for himself. He believes that his life appears like Bollywood proverbs from which he has stayed away from curving with sudden twists and turns.
