Bhawana Somaaya is an Indian film journalist, film critic, film historian, costume designer, author and a noted editor of Screen. Bhawana started her career as a film reporter in the late 70’s. She later began working with many popular film magazines in 80’s and 90’s of her career. Bhawana became a noted editor of the popular magazine from 2000-2007 Screen. Bhawana was born on September 7 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Bhawana did her schooling from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School Sion, Mumbai, and Maharashtra. Bhawana persuaded her L.L.B in Psychology from Government Law College, University of Mumbai and then journalism from K. C. College, Mumbai. Bhawana in the start of her career worked for Film Weekly published by The Free Press Journal, Movie magazine published by India Book House, G published by Chitralekha Group until she became editor in the popular magazine Screen. Bhawana was also a costume designer for
Shabana Azmi in many of her films.
Bhawana has a vast experience of 30 years in the Bollywood industry and an author of 12 books. Bhawana is an expert on the film or a film critic on with the radio channel 92.7 Big FM. In her 36 years of journalism, Bhawana is an author of 12 books and more than 5000 columns in the journals and magazines. Bhawana is a pioneer in the field of journalism and won many prestigious awards. She also made her contributions in many of the popular magazines like The Observer, The Afternoon, The Hindu, The Hindustan Times, The Hans India, Pioneer and The Indian Express North American Edition. Bhawana published her first book in 1999

Since then she has written a load of biographies and history of cinema and her latest being Talking Cinema: Conversations with Actors and Filmmakers published by HarperCollins.
