Gulshan Bawra is an Indian actor and singer. His real name is Gulshan Kumar Born on 5th May 1956 to a Punjabi family, Gulshan >> Read More... Mehta. Gulshan Bawra was born on 12th April 1937. He was born 30 kilometers from Lahore in a place called Sheikhpura. Gulshan’s father had a construction business.

Gulshan was a victim of the partition. He saw his father die in front of his eyes. Gulshan’s elder sister took him and his elder brother and brought them to Jaipur, India. Gulshan’s elder brother got a job in Delhi, so they shifted to Delhi and Gulshan completed his graduation from the Delhi University.

He loved writing poetry. Gulshan wanted to get into the film industry even though he applied for a job in the Railways. First, he got posted to Kota, but there was no vacancy so he shifted to Mumbai. In Mumbai, he struggled a lot to get a break in the films.

It was during the making of this film that the film's distributor Shahtibhai Patel noticed Gulshan Bawra. Most of Gulshan Bawra’s songs have been with R.D.Burman. His last release was Zulmi (1999), and his last hit was 'Le pappiyaan jhappiyaan paale hum' for Haqeeqat (1995), which landed Gulshan into the controversy of writing a vulgar song.

As always, Gulshan Bawra is very selective about his work, his films, and songs. He believes that today's filmmakers and music composers are illiterate musically and thus, he is even choosier than before, as he lives a secure and relaxed life.

Gulshan Bawra said, 'Why should I torture myself or waste my lyrics and talents on those who will ask me to do all sorts of compromises?' Gulshan Kumar received the Filmfare Best Lyricist Award in 1968 for the song Mere Desh ki Dharti for the movie Upkaar and in 1974 for the song ‘Yaari Hai Imaan Mera’ of the movie Zanjeer. Gulshan Bawra left for his heavenly abode on 7th August 2009 at the age of 72 in his Pali Hill residence in Mumbai, India.
