Rajat Kapoor was born on 11 th February 1961, in Delhi, India. He is an actor, director, and screenwriter by occupation. He is married to Meena Agarwal and has two children, Rabia, and Vivan. Rajat Kapoor is a 54 years old actor, director, and screenwriter, born in Delhi.
He was mesmerized by the magnificent grandeur of the film industry and decided to choose his career as in actor at the young age of 14. His first experience in acting was when he joined a theater group called Chingari, in Delhi in 1983. He later pursued his passion even further by moving to Pune to attend the Film and Television Institute of India. After graduating, he debuted in parallel cinemas. His first parallel cinema was Khayal Gatha.
Even though he was passionate about acting, in the 1990s he shifted his career and started directing and writing. He achieved perfection in this field too. Many of his directed movies won a lot of major awards. His directorial debut in 1997, with Private Detective: Two Plus Two Plus One. He was first cast in the mainstream movie, Dil Chahata Hai, directed by
Farhan Akhtar, where he played the role of Preity Zinta’s character’s uncle. This role brought him great acclaim and later he worked for
Meera Nair, in her movie
Monsoon Wedding. After this, his career accelerated, and he featured in a number of critically acclaimed films like Corporate and Bheja Fry.
He also directed many awards winning films such as Raghu Romeo, which won the National Award for the Best Feature Film in Hindi, and his latest directed movie in Ankho Delhi, which was released in 2014 and won Star Screen Award for Best Story and also the Filmfare Award for Best Story. His acting also secured him many prestigious awards. Khayal Gatha won the award for Best Film (Critic). He also starred in the Bengali movie, Iti Mrinalini, against
Konkona Sen Sharma, directed by
Aparna Sen. He also acted in a number of television drama like Rishtey, Kabhi Kabhi, Agnipariksha, and
